What is the usual procedure for your first visit?
Your first appointment takes about 60 to 90 minutes and is designed to give Dr. Estrada a complete picture of your health, your concerns, and your goals before anything is recommended.
Nothing is treated on the first visit unless you are in pain or there is an urgent problem. The purpose of the appointment is to understand your mouth thoroughly and give you a plan you actually understand.
Here is how the visit unfolds, step by step:
- 1. Check-in and welcome — Arrive about 15 minutes early. We collect your completed forms, photo ID, and insurance card, verify your benefits, and answer any questions before you are seated.
- 2. Health and dental history review — We go over your medical history, current medications, allergies, past dental work, and anything that has been bothering you, because certain conditions directly affect how we treat.
- 3. Digital X-rays when needed — If imaging is indicated, we take low-radiation digital X-rays to see decay, bone level, and root health that a visual exam cannot reveal. We always explain why an image is needed first.
- 4. Comprehensive examination — A tooth-by-tooth exam with an intraoral camera, plus a check of your gums, soft tissues, bite, jaw joint, and the esthetics of your smile. An oral cancer screening is included.
- 5. Periodontal evaluation — We measure the gum pockets around each tooth to identify gum disease early, when it is still simple to treat.
- 6. Consultation with Dr. Estrada — You sit down with the doctor to review the findings on screen. You see your own images, hear what they mean, and get straight answers to your questions.
- 7. Treatment recommendations — We present your options, explain the pros and cons of each, and prioritize what is urgent versus what can wait. Nothing is decided for you.
- 8. Costs and coverage — Before you leave, you receive a written estimate showing what your insurance covers, your out-of-pocket portion, and financing options if you want them.
- 9. Next steps — We schedule your cleaning or first treatment visit, send you home with personalized hygiene guidance, and set a reminder for your follow-up.
